Delivering Goods

Health and Safety offloading our products at a customer's site is of paramount importance to Longcliffe’s delivery drivers. We currently employ 45 full-time drivers who ensure we can deliver 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to customers in all four corners of the UK.

All drivers are trained to FORS Silver standards and for animal feed customers we are both FEMAS and TASCC accredited.

Thorough risk assessments and safe systems of work are in place to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained on every delivery. In-house driver trainers work with all logistics staff to focus on safety, education and continuous improvement ensuring this ethos is carried through to the driver’s professional conduct on the road and at a customer's site.

Both our driver and the customer have a duty of care to each other to make sure that the delivery runs safely and smoothly.

Tanker and tipper deliveries follow written procedures published and shared with customers.

On arrival at a site the driver will report to a representative, usually at a gate house, to check the delivery paperwork and a product sample can be left for quality assurance purposes.

In the case of bulk tanker deliveries, the driver is directed to the off-loading area and given a key to unlock the silo. This recommended industry practise ensures the right product is discharged into the right silo.

A site representative will turn on all the silo safety features such as the high-level alarm, the filter unit and check for correct operation before the delivery starts.

Our driver conducts pre-delivery checks on all blowing equipment such as pipes, rubbers, clips and whip chords. The driver will check for any overhead or local obstructions and use chocks to prevent rolling of the vehicle. Once satisfied that all safety procedures have been checked, pneumatic discharge of bulk product can begin. A discharge usually takes 30 - 45 min. On completion the driver releases all air through the air value on the tanker before uncoupling.

For tipper deliveries the driver ensures that the tipping area is clear of both overhead and ground-level obstructions; the hardstanding area is level, stable and that the tipping area is large enough to allow the cab and trailer to be in-line. A safe pedestrian area is established around the vehicle which segregates the driver from other site vehicles. When all safety checks are satisfied the bulk aggregates can be tipped.

Delivery paperwork will be signed by the customer to accept delivery of the goods and the driver can return to the quarry where the vehicle is prepared and if necessary cleaned before it is loaded for the next delivery.
