Our Company

Brassington Moor and Ryder Point Quarries are the focus of our operations. We produce over 100 products for use in a huge range of critical industries from animal feeds and agricultural fertilisers to glass and plasterboard production. We also own and operate two wind turbines which contribute renewable energy to the national grid.

Our team of over 190 people is focussed on delivering a range of high quality, high purity, consistent products to our customers. At the same time, we are committed to operating with respect for the environment and the local community.

We keep our logistics operation in-house and regularly invest in renewing our own fleet to ensure it is delivering the best up-to-date performance, delivering benefits for our business, the environment and our customers.

Longcliffe is owned by the Shields family; Chairman Robert Shields DL is the great grandson of John Shields who started the company in 1927. Family members are actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the business.

Robert Shields says: "I hope the benefits of such independence, loyalty and cohesion are immediately apparent to our customers. Our management structure is very flat – there are no hierarchies – so that decisions are made quickly and responses to customer needs are both immediate and supremely flexible.

"Above all, Longcliffe's ethos has two clear and important goals: to provide our customers with the material they need, when they need it, at the right price; and to pursue our business in a manner that is entirely sympathetic to the environment."
