Tell us about your job in a nutshell.

I am a first point of contact for customers.  I answer any queries and then process orders, dealing with production and transport, basically making sure that the customer gets the right product at the right time.

I also create quotes and resolve any invoice queries.  One of my other roles involves silo monitoring for some of our customers.  We are able to remotely check on levels of product in their on-site silos.  This in turn enables us to order and deliver more product, ensuring the customer never runs out.

How has your career developed within Longcliffe?

I started work for Longcliffe in 2021 and went straight into this role, but firstly in the aggregates team.  I then moved on to work for Longfloor, our liquid screed flooring company.  In 2023 I moved into the industrial powders team.  Our industrial powders are based on very high purity calcium carbonates which are used in a wide range of  products from animal feeds to glass making and from sealants to plasterboards.

What training/qualifications do you have and what are the key skills you need to do your job?

I started this job with GCSEs but then went on to complete a customer service course and internal training on aggregates, industrial powders and Longfloor products.  I think you need very good people skills for this role – you are dealing with a very wide range of customers and colleagues. Other skills required are the ability to work well as part of a team; attention to detail and accuracy; excellent telephone manner and problem solving.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

I really like the team I work with and the good relationships I have built with our customers.  I have also developed a good level of knowledge of the industry.  No two days are the same, but the work is always busy, challenging and rewarding.

What are your career aspirations?

I would like to continue to build my knowledge and understanding of the industry and perhaps explore the transport sector further. My aim is to become a sales manager.  I am excited to see what the future holds.

What would you say to anyone thinking of applying for a job with Longcliffe?

I would encourage anybody to work here. You get treated as an individual and not a number and you are given great support within your role.  You are also well looked after in terms of company benefits.
