BOARD ROLE FOR LONGCLIFFE’S COMMERCIAL HEAD

Starting out 35 years ago as a Loading Shovel Driver on a concrete plant, Darren Mooney’s career has taken him through many operational and sales roles. And his knowledge, expertise and track record in the quarrying and aggregates industries has now been rewarded with a board position as he takes on the role of Commercial Director for Longcliffe Calcium Carbonates.

In 1987, with his dad’s help, Darren got the job of Shovel Driver at Tilcon’s concrete plant in Stoke-on-Trent. It wasn’t long before Darren became his dad’s boss. His next job as Relief Depot Supervisor took him out on the road which gave him wider experience of the concrete and mortars industry. From Tilcon, Darren moved on to an Assistant Operations Manager role with competitor, Pioneer Mortars.  When Pioneer was bought by Tilcon in 1993, Darren found himself back in his old role of Relief Depot Supervisor for the concrete division.

In 1996, Darren’s career took a new turn – into sales, an area he had always aspired to move into - where he covered five concrete plants the Cheshire area, gaining valuable first-hand experience with customers.  In 2000, when Tilcon merged with Tarmac, he was promoted to Field Sales Manager, covering the North West, and then in 2006 his role was expanded to cover multi-products – aggregates, asphalt and concrete.  When a reorganisation found him in a new role as National Sales Manager for Cement & Lime, Darren’s expertise in building products was broadened once again.  He then moved into a UK & Export Sales Manager role in the lime business before joining Longcliffe in 2021.

“I am delighted to join the board of Longcliffe – a well-established family business with an excellent reputation,” says Darren.

“I am looking forward to being involved with strategic business decisions and continuing to develop our customer offer with our 70+ products that reach across many sectors including agricultural and glass, as well as construction.  Whilst these are challenging times, particularly with costs increasing, we are working hard to develop innovative ways to add value to our customers and to be the supplier of choice for all calcium carbonates products.”
